GIFT BASKET IDEAS
Gift baskets and bottles are long standing gift ideas
but how about combining both and giving your friend a unique
bartending gift! The budding bartender or even a well established
bar host would appreciate the SPIRIT of a gift basket filled
with all the ingredients to allow them to create some classic
drinks, or to invent their own.
A lot of retailer's feature gift packs from major distillers at this
time of year. The following list of ideas takes some of those gift
ideas a little further and hopefully will serve as an inspiration and
maybe get you invited to partake in sharing their present.
The Manhattan Gift Basket
There are many Manhattan recipes to chose from including the Canadian
Manhattan, The Original,
or the Perfect Manhattan.
To make any of these or many of the other Manhattan recipes your gift basket
should include:
-
1 Bottle of Canadian Whisky
(Rye)
-
1 Bottle of Sweet Vermouth
-
1 Bottle of Dry Vermouth
-
1 Bottle Angostura Bitters
-
1 Jar of Maraschino Cherries
Hints and ideas:
-
Like any gift basket this package
could be enhanced by adding glassware, (perhaps
a few old fashion type cocktail glasses)
-
A shaker, or cocktail kit,
should be added if the recipient does not have
one ( not only ideal for making Manhattans
, but a necessary tool in any basic bar)
- don't forget some classic music CD's
The Martini Gift Basket
Not a new idea, but a classic! What makes this idea fun is the vast variety
of options available to make your basket different than any other. Even
the basic ingredient of a Martini (Vodka Vs Gin) allows for variety.
The basic Gin Martini recipe
(Gin and It) or Vodka based Martini (Vodka
Martini) are just the starting points for the adventurous bartender
[search our
database for the numerous recipes that you can include]. The basic package
should include:
Hints and ideas:
- Other spices and garnishes besides olives
can be added such as pickled onions, lemon
juice, bitters.
- Add a shaker and stir sticks and have
fun debating "Shaken Vs Stirred".
- Add a James Bond video if you are convinced
he is the authority...."shaken...not
stirred".
- Flavored Vodkas exist and can add a set
flavor with no additional work, creating
new Martini flavors.
- Add a book on Martinis, as the recent popularity
of the Martini, specifically the vodka Martini,
has resulted in a number of books on the
topic.
- You can easily change the theme by adding
some Cointreau and cranberry juice, creating
a "Cosmopolitan" gift
pack. Made famous by the "Sex
and the City" girls, add a series of
the "Sex and the City" Movie or DVD.
