Get Outside - Hosting the perfect party in your own backyard
The lazy, hazy days of summer are upon us once again. And, in our opinion, the best cure for a lingering case of winter cabin fever is a frosty drink sipped on the patio with friends!
Step 4: Have some fun!
Play games - Organize a volleyball game (works well in the pool, too) or badminton tournament, or set up a croquet course or putting green. Traditional picnic games like the water balloon toss, egg toss and three-legged race make for great photos.
Relax - Remember that the weather might bring your guests indoors. If that happens, sit back, relax, and have fun -- indoors or out!
- Step 1: Create the right atmosphere
- Step 2: Serve simple, delicious food
- Step 3: Offer fun, thirst-quenching cocktails
- Step 4: Have some fun!
How-to: Make your own lanterns
Use any size can for this project. Peel off labels, fill with water and freeze overnight; the ice will help the cans keep their shape while you make holes in the sides for candlelight to shine through.
On a two-inch-wide piece of masking tape, sketch a simple repeating design. Wrap around can. Following pattern, lightly pound nails through can. Remove and discard the ice. Form 16-gauge wire into a handle with U-shape at each end. Make two more holes, one across from the other under top rim, attach handle, and place votives inside.
