Groaner of the month:
A termite walks into a bar and asks, ''Is the bar tender here?

Our quick (and unscientific) look at some of the trends and news we find interesting and relevant.

First “Chick-lit”, now “Chick Wine”?

According to the New York Times women buy 77% of all wine and consume 60%. As a result, wine companies are responding with more marketing directed at women including promotions with “Chick-lit” authors, corks that have messages on them including “it’s my natural color” and names like “White Lie Early Season Chardonnay”

Dan Aykroyd, Blues Brother to “Booze Brother”

Dan Akroyd in Canada.Dan Aykroyd, the well known actor and musician, has branched out once again, this time into the Spirits business as his company, Alloy Brands, has begun importing Patron Sliver and Anejo Tequila into the Canadian marketplace.
Dan Aykroyd says the target for Patron Silver and Anejo is “people who are going to be entertaining on their decks and cottages. It’s the couple, the young married (couple), people who are having parties this summer and want a sophisticated approach to the cocktail hour. But it’s really for anybody of age that enjoys a luxury sipping velvety tequila.”

Patron, which sold more than 300,000 cases in the U.S. last year, was named 2004 Hot Brand of the Year by American industry publication Impact Magazine. Each bottle is made with handmade glass and individually numbered.

Buying a beer for a friend just became easier

From the on-line newsletter “Trendsetter” come the following new trends:
“Corney & Barrow, one of London's Financial District's largest bar operators, makes it possible for people to buy their friends a drink online (from beer to Jesus Juice to bubbles). Users of the Buy Me a Beer service go to Corney & Barrow's website, select a drink (by glass or bottle), pay by credit card, after which a text message (SMS) with a code is sent to their friend. The happy recipient then presents his or her phone with their virtual voucher on it to any Corney & Barrow bar to redeem their free drink. Not spotted outside the UK yet, and it should work for all kinds of services, from gifts to dinners. As the entire world has a cell phone these days, with even Americans taking to texting...”

And from the same newsletter

Buy me a Beer“Australia's Brewtopia lets its customers design their very own beer online in just 4 minutes. Brewed, bottled and branded with one's brand, event name, personal message or logo, for AUD 39.95 a case, including delivery. The bonus? A share in the brewery with every purchase. In their own words: "It's about Owning the Beer You Drink".
