Free Beer thanks to the new Pope? Airfare not included!

We never thought this column would have a reference to the Pope, but we found this story to good to pass up. It seems the Mayor of the small German town where the new Pope was born has included in his celebrations the declaration that all the residents will get FREE BEER to help celebrate the appointment of their native son as the new Pope.

We don't make this suff up - See the complete story at www.ananova.com »

$100 for a bottle of beer

$100 Beer!We are all familiar with the concept that a bottle of wine can cost $100, but a bottle of beer?

The makers of “Sam Adams” – The Boston Beer Company - have produced a limited quantity of a beer call “Utopias”, which retails for $100 a bottle.

Limited, but strong. The 2003 collection is already in the Guinness Book of Records as the strongest beer in the world with an alcohol percentage of 25% by volume.

If you are interested you better act fast. The Boston Beer Company only brewed 8,000 bottles of this strong brew and they are already selling on eBay for over $300 each.

The Wall Street Journal describes the “Utopias” as “a stout with cognac aromas”. At that price be sure to share with a friend or two.

½ Bottle of Wine please

According to the Wall Street Journal ( April 1, 2005), “one of the hottest – and best- trends in restaurants these days is half bottles of wine”

“In the past five years, the number of half bottles on wine lists has more than doubled” says Ronn Wiegand, publisher of Restaurant Wine, a trade newsletter. “the trend began just as the economy soured, he says. “People traded down and began looking for higher quality wines in half bottles, and now the trend has become a fashion”.
