CELEBRATE THE NEW "SEX AND THE CITY" MOVIE WITH COCKTAILS FROM THE SHOW
Sex and the City introduced cocktails to a whole new generation of drinkers. THE RUBY, the ABSOLUT HUNK, the TARTINI and of course the COSMO are some of our favorites.
THE RUBY
"The Ruby garnered attention when it appeared on HBO's popular series "Sex and the City." In the season finale (4th year), boyfriend Aidan (John Corbett) finally proposed to Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker). To celebrate, Carrie and girlfriend Samantha (Kim Cattrall) toasted the event with two Rubies instead of their trademark "Cosmos." Ever since, "the Ruby has been a hottie." - Houston Chronicle, 10/19/01
RUBY RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
4 oz. pink grapefruit juice
1 1/2 oz. vodka (a citrus vodka ideally)
grapefruit sections
INSTRUCTIONS
Mix vodka and pink grapefruit juice with ice in a shaker. Strain into a sugar rimmed cocktail or martini glass.
Garnish with a piece of grapefruit (option: sugar coat the grapefruit)

ABSOLUT HUNK
During season six one of the more memorable scenes featured Samantha and her boyfriend
Smith Jerrod looking up at an ABSOLUT ad featuring a naked Smith with the ABSOLUT bottle in a strategic position. Absolut decided to take advantage of this bit of creativity from the show and went on to promote the ABSOLUT HUNK drink.
ABSOLUT HUNK RECIPE
2 oz. vanilla vodka
1/2 oz. lime juice
1/2 oz. sugar syrup
1/4 oz. pineapple juice
INSTRUCTIONS
Shake all ingredients well with ice and fine strain in to a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime twist or slice.

TARTINI
Carrie and Stanford were out on the town in episode 4 of season 2, and seemed to enjoy their Tartinis which Stanford described as "cranberry vodka". As you can see by this recipe it might be better described as a raspberry vodka.
TARTINI RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
1½ oz. raspberry vodka
1/2 oz. Chambord
1/2 oz. cranberry juice
1/4 oz. lime juice
INSTRUCTIONS
Shake all ingredients well with ice and fine strain in to a cocktail glass.

and of course Carrie Bradshaw's signature drink...
THE COSMOPOLITAN
No one seems to have bothered recording who mixed the first Cosmo, though many drink historians
and bartenders agree that the gay community in Provincetown, Massachusetts,
should be credited with the accomplishment. Of course it might have been created by a Miami based bartender named Cheryl Cook or it emerged from the fern filled bars of San Francisco in the 70s.
Whether the name came about because of the Cosmo's covert kick or because of its tendency to be ordered by those unimpressed with the classic Martini is of little consequence now thanks to the popularity of Carrie and her friends.
The drink may lack complexity, but few can deny
this drink's popularity and reliability and thanks to "Sex and The City" it has become one of the most popular drinks of the last decade.
