HANGOVER CURES?
The hangover - we've all had one at one time or another. An upset stomach, a booming headache, dry-mouth, and a possible guilty conscience, are just a few symptoms. We're not talking about binge drinking, which can completely trash your liver and kidneys, not to mention putting you at risk of death via alcohol overdose. But you don't need us lecturing at you, you know that massive drinking is bad. How do you know? Because your body is telling you.
Hangovers are a combination of low blood sugar levels, toxic overload on your body, dehydration and irritation of the stomach lining. The most obvious solution is to limit alcohol intake - however, the more realistic alternative is to use some of the following avoidance strategies.
- To remain hydrated, cleanse your liver and slow down alcohol consumption, alternate every alcoholic drink with a glass of water with a squeeze of lemon in it,
- Have food with some fat and protein which will slow down alcohol absorption,
- Taking some B-complex vitamins before and after may help,
- Some believe a herb called Perilla may also help prevent a few hangover symptoms.

If these helpful alternatives don't help prevent the "morning after" effect, then here are some tips to get you on your feet a little faster.
- Drink mineral water, or one of those specialty sports drinks to re-hydrate and restore electrolytes.
- Eat a light, low-fat meal to restore blood sugar levels,
- Take some B and C vitamins to replace the ones you've washed away the night before,
- Magnesium and MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) are all thought to be effective at relieving hangover headaches,
- Ginger and peppermint tea are great for nausea
- The hardest part, AVOID CAFFEINE. Caffeine is a diuretic and will contribute even more toxins to the ones already in your system.
We wish we could say otherwise, but the easiest way to avoid, or at least reduce a hangover is to drink responsibly.
