MEN MAKE DINNER DAY
Men Make Dinner Day

By Dave Coulter

This is a day to show what we men are really made of, so flex some muscle and tie on an apron!

We're not sure who started this holiday, which is celebrated on the first Thursday of November each year, but it sounds like a great excuse to show that men can cook, too. We're just too busy to get around to it! There are some rules for the "holiday," however...

The rules, which appear to have been written by females, include: no grilling, no take-out, no trade-off for making the dinner, no assistance from the woman of the house, no feeding the meal (no matter how bad the result) to the family dog, and so on. For a complete rules list, log on to menmakedinnerday.com.

A few reasons to participate

  • While cooking, you can still wear your tool belt --simply replace the hammer with a whisk.
  • Several recipes include beer as a legitimate ingredient.
  • Whatever recipe you choose, you can name it after yourself. Example: tonight’s dinner is called "Doug’s Surprise."

SOME RECIPE IDEAS

Keeping the rules in mind, here are some of my favorite food ideas.

DRINKS TO ENJOY WHILE MAKING DINNER (there's nothing in the rules about drinking)

ENTERTAINMENT for you and your guests, before, during and after the meal (again, there's nothing in the rules about this)

  • NFL: Denver at Cleveland, 8:15 p.m.
  • NHL: Lots!, See the full list...
  • "Baywatch" reruns on SPIKE TV

See? This doesn't look so hard. Who said dinner was hard to make?

Good luck, men!

P.S. Send me an email to report on your success!
